While looking for another job, Nicholas takes up with Alison Kelly, an Australian girl he met at a party in London. Unfortunately, the book then takes a complete left-turn, an increasingly silly shift into the psychoanalysis of the confused Nicholas, a vast and complex pantomime that goes from one climax to another, all pointing towards a ridiculous amount of time, money, and effort expended upon the most pedestrian after-school special of a goal.
It’s also subject to multiple interpretations. As we read our own defenses come down and we are stricken to our core by some psychodynamic magic or perhaps the power of Ancient Greek Gods and Godesses. However, a lot of that seems dated now. Are we delving deeper into the mysteries of the universe or the mysteries of a detective novel, or both?
He’s a bit of an intellectual and dabbles in poetry. This book is no exception.

Eventually, Nicholas realises that the re-enactments of the Nazi occupationthe absurd playlets after Sadeand the obscene parodies of Greek myths are not about Conchis’s life, but his own. In he published a revised edition. I’m very ambivalent about this book. But looking back, they just don’t seem to have the same magic or mystery for me.
Nicholas is gradually drawn into Conchis’s psychological games, his paradoxical views on life, his mysterious persona, and his eccentric masques. Hatta nolur okuyun diyorum.
